Mike Chang was born in New York City, the son of Chinese immigrants who came to the United States for a better life. He studied Northern Shaolin Kung Fu since childhood from his father, who later sent him to China to further his studies in the hopes that Mike would become a grand master of the form and return to the States to pass on the legacy of this martial art.

 

However, Mike had another dream, to the deep disappointment of his father.

 

He wanted to be a police officer, and after his return from China, he applied to the New York Police Department and worked his way up to detective in Homicide, gaining a reputation for his meticulous work and dedication to the job.

 

Right before Mike’s next promotion, he was assigned to a case no other detective wanted to touch, and about which Mike only heard whispered in the hallways that it involved the supernatural. He was determined to solve the case, but a month after taking it on, strange and horrifying things began happening to him and Mike asked to be temporarily relieved of duty.His superior sent him to the police psychologist to process his trauma from the investigation.

 

The police psychologist worked with Mike for a year, believing in him when he had a hard time believing in himself, and helped him return to work. But the psychologist knew that Mike needed more than his job back to have a life—he needed the help of an old man named Jack who understood things beyond police work and psychology.

 

Jack introduces Mike to the world of The Order, an ancient organization comprised of Hunters dedicated to capturing and sending evil spirits and escaped demons back to the netherworlds from which they came.

 

Combining his skills as a martial artist and detective, Mike accepts that his encounter with the supernatural was not an accident, but an initiation into a world that few people are aware of, and only the righteous who kick ass survive!
